Serving and Marketing: The Powerful Duo for Your Local Business

As small business owners, our primary goal is to attract clients, increase our profit margin, and navigate the challenges of an increasingly skeptical customer base.

There is a profound connection between serving others and effective marketing strategies, helping you create long-lasting relationships with potential clients.

By prioritizing the needs of your target audience and implementing reliable marketing fundamentals, you can build trust, establish a sense of community, and drive growth for your business.

Serving: Putting Others First

You may wonder, “What does serving others have to do with marketing?” Well, serving others involves placing the needs of potential clients and customers before your own. It means empathizing with their pain points and providing solutions without expecting immediate returns.

When I say “nothing in return,” I refer to the notion of building trust and fostering a community around your brand or message. By consistently delivering value to your community, you can create a loyal following that not only supports your business but also becomes advocates, promoting your offerings to others.

However, serving others is merely the first step in forging lasting relationships with potential clients.

Marketing: The Key to Continued Growth

While serving others lays the foundation for trust and community, effective marketing is crucial for sustaining business growth. Even if you offer the best product or service in the world, it won’t yield desired results if you don’t expand beyond your existing circles.

Addressing My Challenges

Personally, I faced challenges related to being the brand itself. As a Mexican-American female, I wasn’t raised to take the lead or have a voice. Nevertheless, I possessed qualities that enabled me to step up.

As a marketer, I was trained to make others look good, as it wasn’t about me. However, I found joy in teaching others simple marketing techniques, which helped me establish valuable connections.

When the time came for me to represent my brand, offer my services, and be the face of my business, I had to overcome the historical barriers I faced. It was a daunting task, but I chose to set aside social pressure and focus on essential marketing fundamentals.

The Basics: Reliable Digital Footprint, Compelling Content, and Consistent Communication

To execute effective marketing strategies, you need to prioritize the following fundamentals:

  1. Establish a reliable digital footprint: Fill and maintain an active Google Business profile, confirm your Nextdoor business profile, and keep your Facebook and/or Instagram business accounts updated.
  2. Create compelling content: Craft engaging and informative content that resonates with your target audience. This can be achieved through blog posts, social media updates, or videos.
  3. Maintain consistent communication: Regularly engage with your audience through email, comments, answering queries, and providing updates.

Invest in Yourself and Your Business

One of the common challenges faced by business owners and leaders is the reluctance to invest in themselves or their businesses. Marketing often becomes an afterthought, leading to procrastination and last-minute online ads that fail to attract new customers.

To overcome this hurdle, start with the basics. Identify what good and simple marketing means to you and your business. Make a personalized list of strategies and then consider booking a call with me to explore how I can support and serve you on your marketing journey.
