As a small business owner or new entrepreneur, creating compelling content doesn’t have to be daunting. Still, I definitely understand that it can be. Here are 9 ways to get unstuck with creating content, and the best part — try these tips WITHOUT showing your face on camera.
1. Stay Informed & Document
Write or post about recent events or developments in your industry that will matter to your customer. Keeping up with industry news shows you’re an authority, and it feels good knowing there’s a real person to turn to for their opinion or the latest news.
Example: You’re an AC repair business owner. You get sent an article or a viral video about a ‘hack’ to extend the life of their AC system.
If the advice is bogus or dangerous: You have the opportunity, and maybe even a responsibility, to dispel the misinformation through your communication channels.
If the advice is accurate: You can speak up as the authority in that industry to confirm the benefits of that type of maintenance. And you have an even better opportunity to correct or add to the maintenance process, which can spotlight you further as an expert.
TIP: Keep the industry jargon to a minimum, and avoid acronyms if possible.
2. Go Behind-the-Scenes
Share candid photos or videos of your team in action or your product being made. This humanizes your brand and connects with your audience.
Example: You own a small business that sells handmade jewelry. A behind-the-scenes post about your company might include a photo of you and your team working in the studio, a quick video tour of where the magic happens, or a few snapshots of the creative process from start to finish. This type of content allows your audience to see the real people behind your brand and glimpse what goes into making your products.
3. Give Expert Tips and Tutorials
Share valuable insights and helpful tutorials related to your industry. This also establishes you as an authority that can gain trust.
4. Showcase Success
Write a case study about a successful project you’ve completed, or create quick graphics that showcase your business’ impact on your customers.
5. Repurpose Customer Testimonials
Feature reviews and success stories from satisfied customers to build trust and attract new clients. You can turn these testimonials into voice-over videos or social media graphics.
6. Review Products or Services
Write reviews of products or services you use in your business that makes a difference to the quality of service your customer receives.
Example: You’re a mechanic, and you review the different types of oil for a typical oil change. Which ones are best for specific vehicles, environments, etc.
7. Share Event Photos/Videos
Post photos or videos from company or community events to stay relevant and demonstrate local involvement.
8. Create Helpful Resources
Offer free checklists, templates, or How-To guides to provide value and showcase your expertise.
Example: If you own a pest control company, offer branded checklists for different seasons to avoid pest infestation. You can do this with an email to your customers, a blog post, or carousel posts.
9. Understand Customer Pain Points
Ask your customers about their challenges and share answers to position yourself as a valuable resource.
This sounds dramatic, but to get to this introspective point of view quickly, ask yourself, ‘What makes our customer cry?’ What comes to mind?
